Ikonofyakio (Pictorial)
On the south side of the monastery of Agios Ioannis Lambadistis, there is the ikonofylakio (pictorial), which has heirlooms of the entire community of Kalopanayiotis.
Some of the items are invaluable, ancient and unique. All the items have their own significant value, although a few are worth to mention. The large architrave, which is frescoed by a painter from Constantinople (14th century – Paleological Art), the image of the ‘Virgin Mary’ (12th century purely Byzantine features – Komninou Art) and the unique ‘Gospel’ printed in Genoa, Italy, in 1550, with a metal cover made in Constantinople. Also, an excellent diptych of the late 14th century BC, with the characteristics of the art of Sinai, representing several forms.
The pictorial depicts an icon of the Virgin Mary the Deaconess of the 15th to the 16th century in the Kyklotissa style, which is named ‘The Envisioned’, which means that, at any point one stands, the Virgin appears to turn her head towards them. Also on display, is the unique icon ‘The Lord’s Information’.
Among the rare treasures there is also a part of an amazing iconostasis, a rare painting that belonged to the church of Our Lady.
