Museum of The Cyprus Railway

During the British occupation in Cyprus, the idea of creating a railway network began in the first year. Thus, besides the construction of the road in 1899, which ended in the village, Evrychou was the western end of the Cyprus Railways connecting Famagusta with Nicosia and Nicosia with Evrychou, with a total distance of 72 miles. The Railway, although operated since 1906, it was connected to Evrychou in June 1915. The construction of the railway was an important infrastructure project, as it connected a harbor with main rural areas, as well as the Skouriotissa mines and Chromium mines. In addition, a large number of British soldiers would be safely and speedily transported, as Cyprus was chosen as a military base.

The Train Station, built in 1906, received several uses after the end of use of the railway in 1931: in 1932 it served as a health centre to deal with contagious diseases and later as a dormitory.

In 2004, the Railway Museum was renovated and that is how it has remained today. In the halls, there are original documents, drawings, photographs and objects on the railways of Cyprus on display, as well as station and rolling stock models. In the back, there is a platform and part of the original railyway rails. Two wagons of the Cyprus Railroad are displayed under a metal shelter in the courtyard.
