Quercus Infectoria (Oak Tree)

The oak tree (Q. Infectoria ssp. Veneris) is a large-sized tree and belongs to the family of Beech trees, which includes eight genera and about 1050 species. In Cyprus there is a natural spread, the Golden oak, the Palestine oak and the Kermes oak. The oak is found individually or in small groups of trees mainly outside the forests or within and around cultivated fields.

It is a semi-perennial of a large-sized tree with a bulky trunk and a wide spruce that can reach a height of 18 meters. Its bark is gray with significant thickness and slots.

Oak wood is hard, durable and is used in the building industry, furniture, shipbuilding, construction of floors, barrels, mining supports and for the preparation of very good charcoal.
